Brno City Cup – VARS Cup 2024
21st edition of the international pétanque tournament in Brno
Brno City Cup - VARS Cup 2024
21st edition, here we go!
We cordially invite you all within the walls of Veveří Castle, where this year, August 31st, we will once again come together to enjoy a fantastic sports day and compete for the coveted trophy. We promise to do our utmost to ensure that you take away nothing but good emotions and memories from our tournament, ones you will cherish fondly.
The winner takes is all?
Nope. The winner takes the trophy, price money is divided proportionally to the best 4 triplettes. As usually, we prepare tournament T-shirts and additional prices for all teams promoted to quarter-final.
Come to us, you won’t regret it!
Every year, we host teams from abroad, so we have a wealth of experience and know exactly what you’ll need assistance with to fully enjoy the tournament. We’ll be here every step of the way, ready to lend a hand whenever you need advice or help.
We are open to the world
We’re proud to hold up a mirror to Czech petanque, and once again, we eagerly invite skilled players from abroad to join us, providing an opportunity to test our abilities. Throughout the tournament’s history, the success rate of Czech and international teams has been roughly 50:50. Who will tip the scales this year?
Brno – on a halfway between Prague and Vienna
The tournament is located at the castle of Veveří, on a shore of Brno dam, where you can spend beautiful time on a steamboat or just chilling on a grass beach. If you are interested into fancy restaurants, pubs and bars, there are plenty of them in the downtown of Brno – for example Super Panda Cirkus, 4pokoje, Bar, který neexistuje or Slast. If you wanna stay overnight, we recommand you adventurous and experience-driven Anybody Hotel!
Is Brno too small for you? No problem. It takes only 2 hour to Prague, Bratislava or Vienna.
How to register to the tournament?
Only players with a valid license and homologated boules are eligible to participate in the tournament. If you are interested in, just write an e-mail to carreau@carreau.cz or contact Jan Michálek.

Will they come and defend their titles this year?
Will other foreigners win?
Will the home players conquer the castle again?
Or perhaps the female players will triumph?

What is our tournament about?
The inaugural edition took place in 2004 at the Rosnička venue in the Žabovřesky district. It then relocated to the Řečkovice district for seven years before settling in the grounds of the Veveří state castle since 2012.
Our aim has always been, and we hope it will continue to be, to organize the tournament in a way that attracts not only the top players domestically but also outstanding talents from abroad. This has enabled a broad domestic player base to compete against exceptional individuals, including national champions, Centrope tournament winners, representatives, participants in various championships, and world champions. We also had the honor of welcoming Mr. Claude Azéma, the president of the world federation, at one of our editions.
This tournament has secured a permanent spot on the calendar and we are pleased it has been included in the list of events supported by the city of Brno.
